One nation under Zuck

After Dave Winer explained why he doesn’t link to Facebook blog posts, John Gruber responded and once more pointed out the danger and the pervertedness of walled gardens like Facebook and the way they try to kill the open web.

I fully agree and started thinking about how it is possible to have ended up where we are at now. I think it has to do with the graduality of it all. Once upon a time Facebook started as just another website, in the grand scheme of things. It didn’t start out as the behemoth it is now.

But in the meantime, Facebook has transformed into this global entity, this nation in itself. And even though Zuckerberg says he has no aspirations to become a president, he kind of already is… although not really of a democratic nation of course.
